New electronic piece & a review from SCI.
My newest electronic "tape" work, And the stallion put on my pants and began to sing. was presented on Tuesday, April 20th, as part of the REMLABS fall concert. It was a spectacular event, filled with a lot of great music and lighthearted whimsy.
Cube review from SCI
The recent performance of my left hand piano composition Cube by Kimi Kawashima was featured in a review by Luke Gullickson of the entire SCI Revion VI conference. Bravo to Luke for taking on this task, and thanks for the kind words.
New work premiered on Around Here
Put together by Ethan Greene and Garrett Schumann, Around Here was a concert of works by University of Rice composers and musicians all performed outdoors at Mandell Park. The concert took place on Sunday, April 6th, at 2:00 p.m. and featured my new composition Birds for brass trio. Karl Blench, Gail O'Brien, and Michael Craig gave a great performance and I'm looking forward to adapting this for my first doctoral recital early next semester.

Cube selected for 2008 SCI Region VI conference
My left hand piano composition Cube will be performed by the amazing pianist Kimi Kawashima on the Society of Composers Inc. Region VI Conference. The conference will be held April 16-19, 2008, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX (one hour north of Houston). This year's conference will also serve as Sam Houston State University's 46th Contemporary Music Festival and will feature guest composer David Dzubay. I'm pretty excited to get another performance of this work, especially with such a great pianist!

SATB Friendship on Rice Composers' Forum - Saturday, Nov. 3, 8 P.M.
My new SATB arrangement of the third movement of Friendship, is going to be premiered on Rice University's Composers' Forum concert. This is my first piece to be performed at Rice, and I'm a little anxious. For those of you who can't make it to the concert, I have posted the recent recording I did on my music page. The sound is a little 'boxy' due to the space we recorded in, but I think my singers did a great job. Also, these are the same singers who will be performing on the Forum concert. Enjoy.
Our Baldwin Acrosonic

So, on Saturday my wife and I went to look at some pianos, and after playing on about
ten spinet types I fell in love with this Baldwin Acrosonic instrument from the 1950's and bought it.
Now, looking from the outside you can't tell it, but inside this piano looks like the
grim reaper is knocking on its door. BUT! when you play it, wow, it sounds great.
I couldn't believe it.
Changed design again...
Haha! I changed my design again. Couldn't stand my amateur coding in css, and also my Mom was having problems using explorer. So I went with this pre-fab design. Pretty sweet, I think, but it looks like "forever" only lasted a few days...haha.
Video Art
Poking around online, I came across Peter Sarkisian's video art. I like the way he focuses on what he calls "the fundamental properties of the medium itself, namely frame and surface." These are issues I have been thinking about with every piece, yet I'm still convinced it is still possible to excape through illusion. However, I still dig his stuff.
SATB Friendship Recording Tonight
Tonight, from 6-7:30pm I will be recording the third movement of Friendship. This is a new version of that movement, re-composed and arranged for SATB choir. When I get the recording done I'll put it up here, so send us all your positive mojo to do a great job.
New site design
Check out the new design! This is the design I'm keeping...forever....really, I mean it!
